DMX512 or simply DMX (»Digital Multiplex«) is the standardized data protocol for the transmission of digital control data in lighting technology. DMX devices are wired in series. The last device needs a final resistor. Most of them are already installed in the devices.
DMX signals are wired via 5-pin XLR connectors, sometimes cheaper 3-pin connectors are also used. A special DMX cable with 110 Ohm impedance is used as the cable. Since AES / EBU digital audio cables have almost these properties, AES cables can be used as DMX cables without any problems. We do not recommend using “normal” analog cables.
